Search engines, i.e. Google, rank the returns for searches based off a number of criteria. Remember, the goal of a search engine is to return the most helpful results possible. So the most important step to help your site rank is to have good, relevant content. Make sure each page on your site is specific to one or two topics. By choosing just a few keywords, you are telling the search engines what the page should rank for. If there are multiple words you want to rank for, create multiple pages on your site. Don’t try and cram everything on a single page, or the search engine will have a hard time indexing your site for returns. In crafting content feel free to use the keyword on your page, just not so often that it becomes difficult to read. Also, make sure you place your keywords in the appropriate meta/header fields and in the page title, which provides the search engines even more information to help rank your site.
Considering that 40% of web searches are for local businesses and service, the answer is probably yes. Online advertising offers you the ability to track efficiency and conversions down to the penny. It also provides the flexibility to adapt your plans to what is working and lose what isn’t. After investing in a new web site, you can analyze your traffic to address strengths and weaknesses of your site immediately. If you buy online ads, you can see how many users visited your site from that ad, and how much they spent when they got there. So if your advertising goal is to convert shoppers into buyers, online has tons of built in advantages!
You can use every weapon in the online marketing arsenal, but without a well organized site that is functional and easy to use, it is all for not. If a user lands on your site (whether through SEO, PPC or an online ad), and they don’t find what they want, they will leave in a hurry. Now you paid to get them to the site, but you didn’t convert them. If you invest in online marketing, then turn a critical eye on your site. If your website doesn't speak to your audience and ultimately lead them to convert, it’s redesign time. And if that isn’t in the budget, think about creating landing pages.
SEO stands for search engine optimization, a process that helps your site rank higher on search engine results pages. SEO starts with research (Google Keyword Tool is a great resource) to determine how users are searching for the products or services you offer. Then, you can match words or phrase to each page of your site. Make sure the content on that page is relevant to your keyword, and if you have too much content, create other pages. The more the better! Clean html code also comes in to play. To get some rules on coding, visit the Html Validator.
