Norman D. Peets III, DDS, is one of a select group of dentists nationwide to receive the Academy of General Dentistry's (AGD) prestigious Fellowship.

 

As a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), Dr. Peets has been recognized by the Academy's members as a leader who is committed to excellence in patient care. The FAGD award symbolizes the professional responsibility of general dentists to remain current in their profession. To achieve this award, Dr. Peets completed a comprehensive written exam and a minimum of 500 hours of quality continuing dental education. Only 9% of dentists have achieved Fellowship.

 

Dr. Norman D. Peets III, DDS, FAGD, is one of a select group of dental implantologists in the world to receive an award of Fellowship during the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) annual meeting.

 

As a Fellow of the ICOI, Dr. Peets has been recognized by the Congress' membership as one of the world's leading experts in implant care. To qualify for this award, Dr. Peets had to submit a series of required cases to be reviewed by the board of directors of the ICOI.

 

The International Congress of Oral Implantologists is an organization dedicated to communicating scientific knowledge and improving the clinical practice of dental implantology worldwide. Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth and to secure dentures.

 

Dr. Peets graduated from the Emory University School of Dentistry. Since 1983, he has been practicing in a private practice in Implant, Cosmetic and General Dentistry in Gainesville.

Q:  Hello. I have a very simple question for you. I am what you would consider at the poverty level. I have a job where I work 27 hours a week bringing home less than $200. The health of my teeth are very important. I floss and brush twice a day, use mouthwash.... BUT; I know that I need to visit a dentist for cavity fillings and a thorough cleaning. Fact remains that I do not have dental insurance nor can I afford it. Do you know anywhere that will help me receive the dental care I need for free or for a VERY cheap price? Thank you for your time!
A:  Two excellent places to get fee adjusted dental care are Good News at Noon and the Lanier Tech at Gainesville College.

Q:  I was just wondering, I am 24 years old and have two wisdom teeth coming in sideways and I am a convicted felon and can't get medicade and can't afford any thing else is there any kind of other help I can get to have that fixed?
A: 

This is quite a problem because you will need the services of an Oral  Surgeon specialist to remove this tooth.        Most of the Oral Surgeons in the Hall County area generously donate their services to the Good News Dental Clinic located in Gainesville.  The Ben Massell Clinic is in the Atlanta area and has Oral Surgeons that donate there time there.

Q:  My teeth don't hurt. Does that mean there's nothing wrong with them? Should I still go to a dentist?
A:  Like every other disease of the body, the earlier dental problems are detected and treated the more successful and less costly the treatment.  Regular dental check ups allow us to detect cavities and gum disease before they hurt.

Q:  How can dental implants benefit patients with partial dentures?
A:  Many patients with partials are embarrassed about unsightly clasps and wires that show.  Partial dentures are difficult to keep clean, and place excessive pressure on the remaining teeth.  By replacing partials with implant supported teeth, the esthetic and functional dilemmas associated with partial dentures all but disappear.

Q:  What are dental implants?
A: 

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots, made from surgical grade titanium, which over a period of several months fuses to the bone in the jaw.  Once integrated, attachments are secured to the implant and teeth are placed on the attachments.  Implants are now considered a mainstream dental service and are used routinely to treat missing teeth and loose dentures.

Q:  Are dental implants expensive?
A: 

While the initial cost of dental implants is more expensive than conventional dentistry, they last much longer, making the  "lifetime" expense a bargain.

For example, the average life of a denture is around five years, not including relines.  Crown and bridges is around thirteen years.  Implants can potentially out last these many times over with proper maintenance.
